FAQs
How much are the fees?
Our fees vary depending on the assessment of the needs, type of care required and length of stay a resident requires – our Home Manager will be happy to discuss this with you.
What services are included in the fee at Hazelbrook?
The fee at Hazelbrook includes all boarding and lodging, meals, snacks and drinks, in house laundry and cleaning services, and 24 hour care –including interfacing with GPs, District Nurses etc. and all prescribed medication.
What are the extras that we would have to pay for?
Additional charges are applied for chiropody services, beautician, hairdressing services, newspapers, periodicals, external laundry, dry cleaning, escort services, toiletries, TV subscription services and telephone. Meals for friends and relatives are also chargeable.
How do you assess my relative’s needs and therefore the fee relevant to his/her needs?
The home will conduct a comprehensive pre-assessment at the location of your choice e.g. hospital, your relative’s home or Hazelbrook. The outcomes of this assessment will be discussed with you and also whether or not we can meet the needs of your relative. The fee relevant to these care needs will also be discussed at this time. These needs and fee are confirmed both verbally and in writing with you before accepting an admission.
What happens if the needs of my ‘relative’ change?
Dependant on the changing needs of the resident, a reassessment would be done to see if Hazelbrook could still meet these needs. If we found we could no longer meet these needs, we would meet and discuss with you possible options for your loved ones. This could involve a social worker in order to find the right ‘home’ to satisfy the needs of your relative.
How do you keep me informed about my ‘relative’s’ health?
We will discuss this with you on admission. Ideally we would like to keep you informed on a 24 hour basis i.e. be able to call you and let you know of any adverse circumstances. But if you prefer to be disturbed at night for emergencies only, then we will record this in the care plan and act accordingly. You are of course welcome to discuss your relatives’ physical, mental, health or social needs at any time with the Home Manager or with another senior member of staff. We will also involve you in any reviews of the care plans and keep you informed.
Can my relative keep his/her own ‘GP’?
Certainly and this is what will happen. We will work with your current GP to plan and provide your relative’s care. If for any reason your GP is unable to continue to provide this service, then the home will help facilitate arrangements with a local GP surgery in the area. We also have a local GP coming into the home once a week.
Can residents bring their own belongings to Hazelbrook?
Residents are encouraged to bring their own personal belongings such as ornaments, pictures and small items of furniture for their bedrooms. Some larger items like bed, cupboard, dressing table etc, can be arranged but must be discussed with the Home Manger before admission. Bed linen and towels are provided by the home.
What type of activities do you organise?
There are plenty of daily activities going on in the home. We have a very comprehensive activities timetable which includes quizzes, gardening, sing-a-longs, coffee mornings, hand massage and pampering, reminiscence sessions, seasonally-themed events, weekly Bingo and charity events.
The choice of whether your relative wants to join in in these activities is left up to them; our staff will encourage residents to take part but will not force them.
Pursuit of personal interests and hobbies is encouraged by the staff at Hazelbrook.
Can I take my relative/ friend for outings?
Yes – all we request is that you inform the Home Manager or a member of our senior staff, and let us know when you expect to be back; this is primarily for monitoring and security reasons.
What happens during public holidays especially during Christmas?
Public holidays are like any other day in the home and special events are celebrated with enthusiasm. At Christmas, the home is fully decorated. During this festive period, most residents spend Christmas in Hazelbrook and enjoy a traditional Christmas meal but some do go out to families for lunch or tea.
Do you cater for pets?
Unfortunately, we do not cater for pets – we have to adhere to infection control practices and cannot risk allergies and the health of our other residents and staff.
